Jury Services Disqualifications

All of the excuses need to be submitted with the summons. If a summons cannot be submitted, please have the badge number referenced on a signed and dated letter. Some of these excuses can be submitted online. Please click on theJuror Login Pageif your request can be submitted online.

Disqualifications:

  1. Disqualified – Conservatorship
    Jurors can be disqualified for this reason if they either provide conservatorship papers showing them under conservatorship or they are a conservator for another person. There is no time limit on the forms. They can submit them from any year.
  2. Disqualified – Felon on Parole, Probation or Community Service
    Jurors can only be excused for being a felon for the following reasons: they are currently on parole, they are on felony probation, they are serving community service for a felony, they are a registered sex offender or they have committed a malfeasance in office and their civil rights have not been restored. You can also submit this excuse online by clicking on theJuror Login Pagelink If you answered NO to all of these questions, you are now eligible to serve jury duty.
  3. Disqualified – Non Citizen
    Jurors can be excused Non-Citizen by marking box 1A on their questionnaire form and signing their name at the red x at the bottom. If they state this disqualification on a failure to appear card, the juror must sign the back of the card. No family members are allowed to sign the summons in place of the juror.   4. Disqualified – Non Resident
    Jurors can be disqualified Non-Resident by marking box 1C and signing their name on the form. If you do not have your summons, you can sign and date a letter referencing your badge number stating “I have moved from Kern County Permanently” .The juror’s family can also sign the summons and state this on the form as well. The juror can be rescheduled to give time to sign the summons. You can also submit this excuse online by clicking on the Juror Login Page link. If they have been disqualified in the past for Non-Resident, proof would need to be submitted with the summons that the juror is no longer in Kern County. Jurors can send in a copy of their current driver’s license or ID that has their name and current address (outside Kern County). A copy of a current rental agreement or utility bill (gas, electric, water, cable). We would also accept current copy of automobile insurance bill that shows name and current address outside Kern County. Please update your information with the DMV and/or contact Kern County Voter Regristration at (661)868-3590 or online at www.soa.ca.gov to update your change of address. You maybe summons in the future and again would be required to send proof with your signed summons or signed letter,
  5. Disqualified – Age-Under 18
    In order for a juror to be disqualified under this reason, they must submit proof of date of birth. They can send in birth certificate, ID or Driver’s License, or even school ID that has DOB.
